American Women in Radio & Television, New York City (AWRT NYC) provides advocacy, educational programs, networking opportunities, and career development services to women in the electronic media industry.
By uniting to help each other, the women in electronic media in the New York City area have been able to make the local media climate more welcoming and effective for women in the industry.
AWRT has historically provided a voice for women in the electronic media and allied fields, and currently through local and national efforts strives to:
- Work to improve the quality of the electronic media;
- Promote the entry, development, and advancement of women in the electronic media and allied fields;
- Serve as a medium of communication and idea exchange; and
- Respond actively and appropriately to community concerns.
Members of AWRT NYC are invited to take advantage of local AWRT events, workshops, and development programs. AWRT NYC operates a mentoring initiative that pairs newcomers to the industry with seasoned professionals, providing junior-level professionals with the opportunity to learn skills, ask advice, and seek support from senior level members of AWRT.
AWRT NYC sponsors monthly luncheons to provide members with opportunities to discover new aspects of the industry, to hear from and directly interact with leaders in the field, and to discuss pressing issues facing the media industry.
Local businesses sponsor AWRT NYC to show their support for women's issues and advancement in the media industry. As sponsors, companies receive recognition in all AWRT news releases and media events, as well as ad space in select AWRT publications, programs, and events.

NANCY KAHN

As a New York City Marathon runner, Nancy Kahn understands the value of longevity. Indeed, her professional career is a testament to her dedication and drive.
Kahn is an industry veteran of nearly two decades. She began her career as a media buyer for Scali, McCabe & Sloves, and then moved to a research position with the Katz Media Group.
Sixteen years ago she joined Interep as an account executive and rose rapidly through the ranks, starting with a prestigious appointment to senior account manager for the BBDO Advertising Account Management Team, a groundbreaking, onsite radio consultant team that moved past the traditional boundaries of the rep-agency relationship.
Since 1999, Kahn has held the position of vice president/director of sales with ABC Radio Sales/Interep in New York. She also serves as business development manager for ABC/New York. She directs a national sales team that bills $37 million annually and whose clients include Disney-owned and -operated radio stations under the Citadel Broadcasting and ESPN Radio groups.
Kahn is a board member of AWRT’s New York City chapter and a member of the International Radio and Television Society. She is the winner of the 2003 Interep Chairman’s Circle Award and a four-time nominee for Interep’s Exemplary Market Performance Chairman’s Circle Award.
