Established in 1951, AWRT is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the impact of women in electronic media and related fields. AWRT has local chapters throughout the United States that promote the advancement and impact of women in electronic media and relate fields by educating, advocating, and acting as a resource for members in the industry. As a national organization, AWRT takes positions on policy issues of importance to women. Over the past several years, AWRT has worked hard to promote ownership opportunities for women in the communications industry and to support efforts to make equal employment opportunity rules for women in communications effective and efficient.

AWM/AWRT NYC has been recognized by its national parent organization through its receipt of several AWRT National BELL ("Bringing Excellence to the Local Level") Awards for our Programming, Fundraising and Public Relations.
