AWRT-NYC held its second annual Golden Apple Awards on Thursday, May 17th. This special event salutes local NYC-area media women who excel professionally and also give back to the communities where they live and work. This year's honorees were Cindy Hsu, Reporter/Anchor, CBS 2 News, Ann Liguori, Talk Show Host, SportsRadio 66, WFAN and Karen Ramspacher, VP, Research, Oxygen Media. The evening was made all the more special by Mistress of Ceremonies, noted actress/director Marsha Mason. It was an inspiring evening that celebrated the spirit of community and the power of women. A great time was had by all!

On Thursday, April 26, 2007, we celebrated the 15th anniversary of "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" by saluting local "Media Moms we Love." The lunchtime panel discussion covered everything from the challenges of working mothers to topical news stories and industry-relevant issues. Our special guests were CW11/WPIX's Kaity Tong, NBC4's Lynda Baquero, ABC7's Lori Stokes and Joan and Liz Hamburg from WOR-AM Radio. Our very gracious host was veteran journalist Roz Abrams. Also joining us was Sara K. Gould, President of the Ms. Foundation for Women, who shared information about the history of this special day and talked about their newest initiative: The Ms. Foundation for Women's Mobile Action Network.

On January 23, 2007, we hosted a lunchtime panel discussion at the Yale Club of New York called "New Media Frontiers: Will They Really Change the World?" Our distinguished panel, moderated my Media 3.0's Shelly Palmer, featured Kathy Crawford, President, Local Broadcast, MindShare, Bernard Gershon, Senior VP/General Manager, ABCNews.com, JB Perrette, President, NBC Universal Digital Distribution and David Poltrack, Chief Research Officer, CBS Corporation/President, CBS VISION.

On October 19, 2006, we hosted our first luncheon of the season at The Yale Club of New York, featuring a panel discussion on the rise and popularity of reality TV programming. Moderated by Broadcasting & Cable Editor-in-Chief J. Max Robins, our distinguished panel included Amy Introcaso- Davis, Bravo, Lynne Kirby, Sundance Channel, Wendy Roth, RDF USA, Bryan Scott, Picture This Television, David Stefanou, True Entertainment and Geri Wang, ABC-TV. It was an entertaining and enlightening hour as the audience learned about how reality TV shows are pitched, produced and sold.

On Thursday, September 28, 2006, we held our annual kickoff event at CBS corporate headquarters on W. 52nd Street. Dozens of chapter members came out to celebrate our new season with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. We were especially honored to welcome our "Media Visionary" guest speaker, CBS EARLY SHOW co-anchor Hannah Storm.
